Founded in 1887, the American Orthopaedic Association is the oldest orthopaedic association in the world. It has parented several major orthopaedic organizations, most recently OMeGA Medical Grants Association. The AOA’s mission is to identify, develop, engage and recognize leadership to further the art and science of orthopaedics. The AOA takes leadership on a range of controversial issues facing the orthopaedic specialty by the acquisition and dissemination of relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes. Recent projects include: Own the Bone, Fellowship Match, and the Orthopaedic Institute of Medicine.
