Tree of Andry Sculpture (FP 9073.818)

About Tree of Andry Sculpture (FP 9073.818)

The Tree of Andry, the international symbol of Orthopaedics since 1741 when Nicholas Andry sketched his now famous icon, is now a bona fide artistic sculpture.

Being tree huggers, history buffs and involved in Orthopaedics, two guys in a basement set out to bring the Andry Tree to life with copper welding cable, mined rock, tile saws, diamond core drills and fifteen hours of toil per tree. Each piece is a unique 17 by 11 by 8 inch tree weighing 5-6 pounds and based on the original Andry drawing representing a great profession and tradition. The sculpture is mounted on a solid wood base and is shipped in a custom designed crate that can withstand almost any shipping mistreatment.  It is a popular gift for Resident and Fellow graduations, department entrances, retirements, birthdays, holidays, visiting professorship, orthopaedic industry, and special projects.
